San Diego, Calif. (Oct. 15, 2018) – They say it takes a village to raise a child, and that is definitely what it took to compile a history of the first 50 years of the sport of ultimate. But that is what Joe Seidler and his team have accomplished. They are proud to announce the release of the newest ultimate history books, ULTIMATE – The First Five Decades, Vol. I and II.
The first volume is a reprint of the highly acclaimed first history book, ULTIMATE – The First Four Decades, highlighting the history of ultimate from 1968-2004. The new, second volume is a continuation of the first book, highlighting how ultimate has advanced from 2005-2018 and looking toward what is in store for the future of the sport.
Before 2004, there were zero history books that highlighted the founding of our great sport, the amazing teams and athletes and the growth of ultimate over time. Seidler took it upon himself to make sure that wealth of knowledge and history would not be forgotten.
“I published these books, Vol. I and II, so the names of the best athletes and their teams, including their amazing accomplishments, would not fade away with time,” said Seidler.
While the first book took readers back in time to the founding and international expansion of ultimate, the second edition takes a closer look at how the sport has become more accessible, from the establishment of local disc organizations and leagues to the strategic focus on equity and diversity, as well as the growing pursuit to achieve Olympic Games inclusion.
ULTIMATE – The First Five Decades, Vol. I and II, will be previewed by Joe Seidler at the USA Ultimate National Championships and 50th Anniversary Celebration, Oct. 18-21, in San Diego, Calif. Both volumes are on sale now for $39.50 each (plus shipping and sales tax) and will be shipped in mid-to-late December. However, there will be a few early versions of both books at the event in San Diego.
