Colorado Springs, Colo. (April 25, 2022)—USA Ultimate, the national governing body for the sport of ultimate in the United States, is proud to announce that it has teamed up with The Color of Ultimate to host a mixed-gender exhibition game at the 2022 USA Ultimate College Championships next month in Milwaukee.
Featuring student-athletes from USA Ultimate’s college division, the Color of Ultimate showcase game is designed to highlight the talents of players of color, connect participants through a unique experience, publicize the sport to a wider community and encourage more people of color to play ultimate.
The game is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. CT on Monday, May 30 at Uihlein Soccer Park and will precede the women’s and men’s Division I championship games at 3:00 and 5:30 p.m. respectively.
Founded in 2018 by the Atlanta Flying Disc Club’s Project Diversity Committee, the Color of Ultimate was created to raise awareness of socioeconomic and racial inequities in ultimate. The exhibition at the College Championships is set to be the initiative’s third. The inaugural event was held in Atlanta in 2019 and was followed by a second game in conjunction with the LA Throwback beach tournament in Santa Monica in 2020.
Athletes competing in the Color of Ultimate showcase game will be selected via an online application process.
Any player of color participating in USA Ultimate’s college division is welcome and encouraged to apply (including those who do not qualify to compete in either the D-III or D-I college championship tournaments).
Applications must be completed no later than Friday, April 29, and players will be selected in two waves – Monday, May 2 and Monday, May 9 – following each weekend of USA Ultimate’s regional championships.
The Color of Ultimate is in the process of identifying qualified coaches for the game, while U.S. National Team coaches will be on hand.
