Colorado Springs, Colo. (October 7, 2026) – USA Ultimate, the national governing body for the sport of ultimate in the United States and member of the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee, announced today that the 2027 USA Ultimate Beach Championships have been awarded to the City of Huntington Beach, CA following the approval of a bid submitted by the organization’s Tier One affiliate, California Ultimate.

The Championships will take place March 20-21 along the oceanfront. This marks the second time the Championships have been held on the west coast since the event’s introduction in 2015. The Beach Championships were previously hosted in Huntington Beach in 2023.

“On behalf of California Ultimate Association, I am absolutely stoked to bring the USA Ultimate Beach Championships back to the West Coast in 2027,” shared Grant Boyd, Executive Director for California Ultimate.  “In hosting this tournament on the legendary sands of Huntington State Beach we hope to offer the ultimate championship experience, and we can’t wait to see teams from coast to coast descend on the California sand to battle it out.”

The upcoming event shifts the Beach Championships slightly earlier in the year, as prior editions took place in early May. The schedule adjustment creates more time between this event and the start of the club season in June, as well as the Masters Championships held in July, and should avoid many of the school-related conflicts that often arise with the early May timing.

The Beach National Championships continue to be one of USA Ultimate’s fastest growing events. With a location more accessible for west coast teams, and updated timing allowing for the introduction of a robust youth division, the 2027 event is positioned to be one of USA Ultimate’s largest and most exciting beach events yet.

Looking Ahead

The 2027 Beach Competition Guidelines, along with applications for teams looking to participate in the Championships, will be released later this fall.
