Webinar: How to Build an Inclusive Team

On Thursday, April 30 at 8 p.m. ET, USA Ultimate will broadcast a free webinar, featuring Chris Lehmann, Angela Lin, Darryl Stanley and Matty Tsang, to provide guidance on how to create an inclusive team environment. This webinar will cover a variety of important topics, including key qualities to look for in an inclusive coach, the importance of recruiting coaches from underrepresented communities, quick-and-easy systemic modifications to support inclusion, beneficial trainings and workshops, and more.

The Masters of the Bee

In the early 1980s the Northeast ultimate community saw the rise of the first all-African-American team: The Masters of the Bee. During their short but exciting run, the MOB – as they referred to themselves – went from learning the basics of how to throw to the semifinals of the Northeast Regional Championships! We interviewed Jerome Stallings and David Love, two founding members of the team, and published an article on how ultimate changed their lives forever.

2020 Black History Month Celebration

After a successful month last year, USA Ultimate took this year’s Black History Month celebration a step further. We showcased some historical achievements of three Hall of Fame members of color, published an article about ultimate’s first all-African-American team, and highlighted an array of athletes, from youth players to gold medalists, sharing their thoughts on what Black History Month means to them.

Lunch & Learn: IOC Rule 50 and Political Statements

For the first Lunch & Learn of 2020, the EDI Team discussed Rule 50 of the Olympic Charter, developed by the IOC Athletes’ Commission, which prohibits athletes from participating in any kind of demonstration (political, religious or racial) at any Olympic setting. The group reviewed articles about the rule, as well as ones about athletes and activism – specifically the WNBA’s Black Lives Matter protests – before spending the remaining time discussing how Rule 50 impacts guidelines already in place at USA Ultimate and WFDF championship events.

Finding and Funding Local Impact

The Ultimate Foundation awarded Ultimate Impact a matching grant to further their amazing work in creating a positive environment for youth in their communities. The Foundation is proud to support an organization that has, as one parent commented, “shown my son how to be responsible, work hard, be on time, enjoy people and love himself.”

Triangle Ultimate Inspires Adapted Ultimate Initiative

Our North Carolina affiliate launched an adapted ultimate program for people with disabilities and their efforts inspired the development of another program across the country.
