Governance
USA Ultimate is the national governing body (NGB) for the sport of ultimate in the United States and 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. It is a member of both the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC) and the World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF). To align with best practices observed by nonprofits, NGBs of amateur sport and the USOPC, USA Ultimate is governed by a 13-person board of directors which includes elected and appointed officials and the organization’s chief executive officer.
As required by USA Ultimate bylaws, the board president annually appoints five standing committees: Audit & Ethics; Governance & Board Development; Judicial; Nominating; and Spirit, Observers & Rules (SOAR). A variety of working groups and task forces consisting of board members, staff and community volunteers are also key components to USA Ultimate’s governance structure.
